Hello World

Well it’s kinda the classic blog introduction title isn’t it?

Whether you’re Irish or not.. You might be wondering why Muin Na Muice,  - well for the non Irish speakers - which is probably the majority of Ireland it’s an old Irish phrase, to be on the pigs back in luck - yep honours Irish students it’s that old phrase you desperately tried to sling into your leaving cert essay!

I wanted to use something oppressively Irish for the title and it was a close tie between Muin Na muice and An bhfuil cead agam dul go dti on leithreas - yeah that question we were forced to ask our whole academic lives here in Ireland. Translation: Can I go to the toilet. Unfortunately the latter is wayyyy to long for a title

So again why these titles ? -because growing up in Ireland you’re repeatedly told how good you have it how lucky . How you need to study hard pass your leaving cert, get a loan from the credit union and go to college so you can get a good job. Sounds simple.

But who are we to decide what we want to do with the rest of our lives at the age of 17 or 18 ? For my non Irish readers, in Ireland you have to pick your four year course right of the bat, there’s no swapping majors no changing to something else unless you want to go back and start again at another four year course.

So I guess Muin Na Muice is representative of a blog where although the outside world says your on the pigs back with luck it’s ok to struggle with these decisions at that you’re not going to get everything right the first go.

So Hi World 👍

Welcome to the day to day side of my blog - I hope it gives you insight into Irish life, travel, long distance relationships and who knows what else as we go.
